Computer Conspiracy

In my spare time, I play hearts on the computer. Yeh, its a little dull, but I must do something to preoccupy myself while unemployed. If I had a skill, as Napoleon Dynamite would say, it would be in Hearts.
But recently, the computer has prevented me from winning. Pauline always seems to score one point less than me. If the geniuses at Microsoft can design Windows, surely they can be behind my losing streak. Personally, I think Pauline and Michelle have an alliance. The designers created Michelle not only to willingly take the queen of spades but also to prevent me from shooting the moon. Michelle has no qualms with Pauline shooting the moon, but oh no I can't. Microsoft wins at Hearts, but at least they can't use computer characters to beat me at Free Cell.

P.S. I tried changing the names of the Heart's characters. Here is the result: Lov becomes Pauline while Katie becomes Michelle. Sorry Katie, but the shoe fits (bygones).

They Sent Their Regards

Today is Friday, which to the working class of America and any student, means that it is a great day. For the student comes the weekend, but for the worker, it means two days rest from 6 am alarm clocks and more importantly, a pay check. I picked up my paycheck, and my manager handed me a card with it.

The card seemed silly to me at first, and I expected a friendly goodbye from the owners. I was wrong. The letter had signatures and messages from nearly every employee. We had entertained each other at work throughout the summer. Dancing wildly to music when the store closed, rapping in the back with the bussers, or sticking labels on people rather than to-go containers passed the time. I realize now that I'll miss the people and the routine of work, all because of this little card.

So to all the employees I've met at Billy Bob's, the monkey cup washing bussers, the rib cutting prepers, the sandwich making cooks, the silverware rolling cashiers, the ice scooping waitstaff, the dedicated managers, and the benevolent owners, I say thank you.
